BKK-3 Architektur, commissioned with the architectural design, chose wood as their main building material. “The wood hybrid building method enables sustainable, resource-conserving construction with a high degree of prefabrication,” explains Franz Sumnitsch, Managing Director at BKK-3 Architektur. This reduced the building time to 14 months and increased the quality of execution. The ecological footprint is further minimised through the use of a carbon-neutral heating and cooling system, as well as a photovoltaic installation on the roof.

Time saving with innovative products

The 510 rooms of the Vienna House Easy by Wyndham are spread over three wings of the building with a central main section. The six stairwells made of reinforced concrete act as stiffening cores, providing the building with stability.

Five storeys in timber construction were laid on the reinforced concrete ground floor – each with 100 rooms per storey. Walls and ceiling panels are made of cross-laminated wood panels, which are still partially visible in the finished hotel and contribute to a pleasant atmosphere.

During the planning phase, the plumbing company Heiz-Hofstätter sought the fastest solutions for the supply and drainage pipes. It found what it was looking for at Geberit. The rooms are heated and cooled using compact room air conditioning units, which, like the sanitary installations, were connected using Geberit FlowFit.

“For the installation of the Geberit FlowFit system, we only need two different press jaws for all eight pipe dimensions. In this way, we saved ourselves thousands of jaw changes,” says Florian Schmallegger, Project Manager at Heiz-Hofstätter.

102 fewer bypasses

Rudolf Stieber, technical advisor at Geberit, says: “Our new, sound-reducing drainage system Geberit Silent-Pro SuperTube came at just the right time for the discharge pipes.” With SuperTube technology, the stack does not require any additional ventilation pipes. As a result, at more than 100 locations where ventilation would have been required in a conventional installation, both working time and materials for the bypass were saved.

More ceiling height on the ground floor

SuperTube technology also offers an additional advantage on the ground floor, where the lobby, co-working spaces, shops and restaurants are located.

The ceiling height was increased, as some of the discharge pipes on the ceiling of the ground floor could be installed without a slope. Thanks to the special design of the Silent-Pro SuperTube fittings, water flows perfectly over a distance of six metres, even without a slope.
